Guest Q&A: Patrick Meaney

Patrick MeaneyPatrick Meaney is co-founder of Respect Films, whose comic book-themed documentaries have included Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods and Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts. Respect Films’ latest project, She Makes Comics, is currently in production, and Meaney will be joined by director Marisa Stotter at 1 p.m. inside the Main Theater to screen footage and discuss its making.

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being able to write and direct projects without having to worry about the business end of things.

2. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
The fact that Grant Morrison let me make a documentary about him still blows my mind.

3. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I don’t think any, but some people might say bad puns.

4. What is your most treasured possession?
I have a baseball signed by Joe DiMaggio from my grandfather, that’s pretty cool.

5. What supernatural gift would you most like to possess?
The ability to transport anywhere in space or time.

6. What is your favorite food?
Popcorn.

7. What is your favorite color?
Green.

8. Who is your favorite fictional character?
Tony Soprano.

9. Who is your favorite person in history?
Augustus Caesar. Ancient Rome is really fascinating to me.

10. Who is your favorite artist?
In comics, Frank Quitely or JH Williams III.

11. Who is your favorite musician?
Kanye West, Daft Punk.

12. Who are your favorite writers?
Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Jonathan Franzen, Phillip K. Dick.

13. DC, Marvel, Lovecraft or Whedon Universe?
DC.

14. What is your motto?
Better to act and fail than get trapped in inaction.
